It's not that From the Abyss is a bad game. It's just that it doesn't do anything interesting or innovative.
However, various restrictions in each dungeon go beyond simple obstacles like traps and spikes. These could be limited health, one-hit kills, or a temple Guardian: an ancient deity that chases you across the map trying to kill you. These restrictions are what keep you on your toes.
Despite the faults, From the Abyss is a solid dungeon crawler. It does what it does well for the genre, and it is very easy to pick up and play. In the long run however, Phantom Abyss Gameplay it's not going to be memorable game.
